45th Annual Ottawa Gem, Mineral and Jewellery Show & Sale

It was a busy weekend. I volunteered to help out the Gem and Mineral Show in town hosted by the Ottawa lapsmith & Mineral Club. I ended up I spent more than I should, and shopped more than I worked...

It was the 45th show the club has organized. This year there were about 58 vendors and many of them have been participating for years. I think I was lucky, I got to be there right from the first moment the vendors rolling in for setup. You gradually see the show transformed from an empty space to a busily buzzing event. For someone who would drool over rocks like me, it was a candy store!

Besiders what all the dealers had to offer, the club also had its own demostrations and displays, featuring members' handcrafted items and club's regular activities (shown below).

There was also a Kid Activity area (shown below) where children and youth could get to take home with a little creation with wire and gemstone.

These are some wonderful vendors I would like to mention:

The Gneiss Guy Minerals and Fossils (http://www.gneissguy. ca/)- Beautiful and quality mineral specimens at absolutely affordable price. Price range from $5 up to over $1000, depending on what you get.

Originals by Andrea (http://www.originalsbyandrea.com/) - If you want to make a "BIG" statement, you need to see Andrea's unique and daring designs. Andrea Kolpaska was from the Slovak Republic, now lives in Canada. The details of the her creation didn't quite show through the picture, but I promise the composition and the quality of the gemstones she uses on her piece are stunning!

Bijouterie Sudha (http://bijouteriesudha.com/) - Sudha has jewelry made of Swarovski crystals, silver, copper, and brass. But I was most attracted to her copper jewelry. The simplicity spoke for itself.

Baroque Lapidary - This is just simply an amethyst crystal heaven. You see all these amethyst crystal clusters at this booth and think that it would cost you a forture. Look again, some are as low as $25. Every piece is screaming the deep rich purple color the amethyst stone is so famour for.

Colin Geitzier Lapidary - This is the last year Colin and his wife would vend at this show. He decided to retire as a dealer. He sold tumbled stones, handcut cabochons, rough and slabs, crystal clusters, geodes and handcrafted jewelry. I purchased a lot of items from him. Picture below shows members of the mineral club gathered together to appreciate and celebrate his last year at the show.

See what I got from the show here.
Thanks for reading.
